Chapter Events and Upcoming Meetings

Contact your Chapter President or Secretary for information on upcoming meetings and events.

CSPE San Joaquin Chapter President is serving as the Chair of the San Joaquin Engineers Council (SJEC) and they have been meeting regularly to prepare for the Engineering activities in February and during the Engineer’s Week.  They have contacted a number of middle schools to participate in the MATHCOUNTS event at the University of Pacific.  The event is scheduled for February 20th.  The deadline for schools to submit their teams is February 5, 2010.  Please visit http://www.mathcounts-ca.org/sanjoaquin.htm for more information and how to contact the coordinators.

The scholarship committee of the San Joaquin Engineers Council is also evaluating applications from graduating high school student to select a number of qualified students and give them scholarships for choosing engineering as their major and attending engineering schools.  Last year the SJEC provided 7 scholarships for a total of $9,000.  We are hoping to raise more funds and provide even more scholarships this year.  The Engineering Scholarship Banquet is scheduled for February 18, 2010 at the UOP Grace Covell hall.   Your participation is requested and your scholarship donations are appreciated.  Please visit the SJEC site http://sjec-ca.org  .

The SJEC is also selecting a registered engineer for the “San Joaquin’s Engineer of the Year” award and a non registered engineer for the “Engineering Professional Distinguished Service” award.  Each candidate is recommended by an engineering society or professional organization and is selected from a list of highly qualified candidates.  The Criteria for the selection is their years of service in their profession, their dedication to their field, their involvement with the professional organizations and their contributions to the community.   The heartfelt speech given by the selected candidates for the scholarships and the “Engineer of the Year” has always been the highlight of the evening.

Anyone interested in participating in the event by making contributions to the scholarship funds or attending the awards banquet can contact Nader Shareghi by email at nshareghi@sjgov.org or by phone at (209) 831-5607 or contact Deedee Antypas at (209) 937-7425 or Ahmad Haya at (209) 831-5620.

This year will be a more active year and the chapter president is hoping to get more members involved with the board and general meetings.  Please contact him for any suggestions or recommendations and offers of involvement.

Thanks,

Nader Shareghi, P.E., D.M. CSPE
